Thomas J. Dowling, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Dowling is the founding partner of Long Island Spine Specialists. He is a Board Certified orthopaedic surgeon with extensive fellowship training in spinal disorders. He is known for his perseverance to help relieve patients discomfort using conservative methods and surgical treatment when necessary. Dr. Dowling is on the Board of Directors of the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Catholic Health Services of Long Island. He holds appointments in healthcare and community organizations, lectures both nationally and internationally and has authored numerous articles and book chapters in professional publications.
Laurence E. Mermelstein, M.D.
Dr. Mermelstein is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon whose clinical practice places an emphasis on pediatric scoliosis and deformities, osteoporotic fractures and minimally invasive surgical techniques. His compassion, commitment and dedication provide the highest quality of care to both children and the elderly. As the first surgeon on Long Island to perform the Posterolateral Endoscopic Discectomy procedure, he continues to be on the forefront of surgical technology. He has lectured extensively at national and international meetings regarding Spinal Biomechanics and Instrumentation and has authored numerous papers and a book chapter on clinically related spinal issues.
Hargovind DeWal, M.D.
Dr. DeWal is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with additional training in neurosurgery. He is committed to the latest advancements in spine surgery, offering patients the newest, most up-to-date technologies. His clinical practice includes microsurgery, minimally invasive surgery, fusion and nonfusion procedures. He also specializes in treatment of athletic spine injuries. He treats patients with a variety of spinal disorders including herniation, stenosis, scoliosis and spinal cord compression. Sushil K. Basra, M.D.
Dr. Basra is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon concentrating his practice exclusively on spine care. He treats a full spectrum of degenerative and traumatic conditions of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, including scoliosis, kyphosis, spinal fracture, tumors, disk herniation, and stenosis. His expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery and his extensive experience in deformity and revision surgery for complex spinal disorders make him a leader in the field of spine. He has published numerous articles relating to treatment of the spine. Dr. Basra has special interest in workplace related injuries and is committed to providing comprehensive and individualized assessment for each patient. Christopher Frendo, D.O.
Dr. Frendo is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with comprehensive Fellowship training in Spine. He has extensive experience in spinal surgery and research. He has performed studies on orthobiologics for spinal fusion, and on motion preservation. He is devoted to the evaluation and management of a broad spectrum of adult and pediatric spinal disorders including complex deformities, degenerative, traumatic, infectious, and neoplastic conditions of the spine. He provides expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery, as well as, complex spinal reconstruction for the treatment of degenerative disorders and deformities of the spine. He is a distinguished speaker and has authored numerous articles and textbook chapters on spine topics.
